Lefty’s was born in June 1993 by a couple of ski bums named Dave Hausmann and John Peterson. Ater John married and moved to the east coast, Dave has been running Lefty’s with the help of his dedicated crew since 1998.
Though many have asked us if we named the bar after one of us being left handed, Lefty’s came from our ski hard days on Baldy. Lefty’s Bowl was our favorite run as we would torture ourselves down the bumps until our legs were rubber. Of course, it doesn’t take as long for the legs to turn rubber, but Lefty’s Bowl is still my favorite.
Lefty’s is located in an old house built in the 1930’s which has been added to and remodeled countless times over the last 80 years. From a home to an electronics store to numerous restaurants in the prior 20 years, 231 6th street is now the permanent home to Lefty’s Bar and Grill.
Lefty’s offers free live music on our deck during the summer months. We book mostly local talent (which there is plenty) with shows ranging from solo acoustics to four and five piece groups all in an intimate setting on our sunny deck. We usually start up as the weather permits in June and run through August. Check out the calendar and stay in touch through facebook in the summer for the latest schedules.
Lefty’s is proud to sponsor and support numerous organizations in the Wood River Valley. Our largest partner is the Sun Valley Ski Education (www.svsef.org) Foundation. The SVSEF, using alpine, cross country, freestyle skiing and snowboarding as the vehicle, strive to give each child an athletic experience that is fun, challenging and rewarding. Their motto, “Building strong minds, strong bodies, and strong futures through winter sports” says it all. Lefty’s has been a proud sponsor for nine years running. Every Thursday night during the winter, starting after Thanksgiving, Lefty’s will donate one dollar for every dinner served to the SVSEF. This promotion lasts all winter until the mountain closes so you have lots of chances to help out our local Olympic hopefuls!
Lefty’s has satellite cable and six HD T.V.’s and subscribe to just about all the packages from DirecTV. So if you’re looking to catch the home teams big game, your best chance of finding that game will be at Lefty’s. Every seat in the house is like your living room. (No wonder we’re often called the living room!)
Looking for something to do. With a pool table, pinball machine, Big Buck Hunter, and always a motorcycle or driving game for the kids, you’re sure to find something to do. If you don’t like any of those games, and your team is getting killed, try out the internet juke box. Still not happy. Bring your laptop and surf on the free WIFI for whatever you want. And if none of that works, just have another Guinness.
